Quality Assurance

John Heine and Son is ISO9001 accredited. A detailed Quality Assurance Manual addresses all procedures from Client Orders and Internal Systems to our production process, namely Patternmaking, Casting, Heat Treatment, Machining, Lab Testing as well as End Transport.

External audits are conducted yearly in tandem with regular internal audits.

John Heine offers internal Patternmaking, Casting, Heat Treatment, Machining and Lab Testing across a wide variety of hard wearing proprietary Heinehard alloys as well as general alloys/metals. Our 130 years of experience can enable us to reverse engineer parts or assist in troubleshooting customer problems/requests.

Machining Capabilities

Horizontal Boring to 3500 (138″) horizontal X 1980 (78″) vertical, 113 (4.1/2″) spindle.
CNC Bed Mill to 3600 x 1050 x 1500 (max 6.5 tons).
Elgarmill Long bed milling to 6096 (20′) table x 4495 (177″) travel x 1220 (48″) high.
Machining Centres Horizontal to 1500 x 800 x 700 and Vertical to 800 x 410 x 510.
Turning to 3000 long x 650 swing.
CNC Turning Turrets to 490 swing x 750 S.C.  Twin pallet vertical turret to 1600 dia x 1200 high.  Vertical borers to 2000 dia x 1000 high.
Vertical Boring 7 machines to 4300 (169″) swing x 1900 (75″) high (max 40 tons).
Grinding 6 machines for cylindrical, crankshaft, slide way and surface grinding.
General Including Huron mills, drills, turret and centre lathes.
Slotting from 16 to 610 (24″) stroke x 82 (3.1/4″), wide keyways and splines.
CAD CAM We run Solid Works for CAD work and Cam Works for our CAM programming.  We are happy to accept a large range of file types.
Cranes We have over 30 gantry and jib cranes from 20 tons down to 0.5 tons.
Assembly Qualified mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic fitters.

 

Environmental Management

The management at John Heine and Son recognise that our environment is fragile and that the company has a duty to be vigilant in containing emissions caused by our production processes.

The Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW), Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 (NSW), Environmentally Hazardous Chemicals Act 1985 (NSW), Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2001 (NSW) and Dangerous Goods (Road and Rail Transport) Act 2008 (NSW) require the company to prevent damage in a number of areas.

The Company has in place a number of procedures to allow us to comply with these requirements in areas such as Stormwater, Noise, Air Pollution, Waste, Ground Contamination, Trade Waste Water and Fuel and Oil under our internal Environmental Management Policy and System.

In addition, the company purchases scrap steel from local merchants and recycles this to finished products. It also purchases and recycles used products from our customers under our credit rebate program.

A Sand Recycling process is employed in the Foundry and a significant proportion of any residual waste generated is similarly distributed to industries that can use it as a first step.

John Heine encourages it’s staff to adopt an environmentally responsible approach at the office and at home.

 

Health and Safety Management

It is John Heine and Son’s goal that each of its employees and visitors shall be provided with a safe and healthy place to work. To achieve this, management is committed in consultation with employees, to take actions to address accident prevention, hazard control and removal, injury prevention, health preservation and promotion.

John Heine and Son has a long list of established Health and Safety Management Policies to cover and exceed the legal requirements under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Workplace Injury Management & Workers Compensation Act 1999 – We have an Emergency Procedure Handbook, Protective Equipment, Parking, Non Smoking, Medical Procedures, Drug and Alcohol, Injury Management and Rehabilitation Policy as well as many others. These are dealt with at employment commencement and ongoing training/testing is conducted.

Separate OHS Committees are run for the Foundry and Machine Shop as well as a consolidated Management Committee.

We have similar rules for visitors/contractors who visit the site.

Our site is also equipped with a fully stocked and operational first aid building.

 

Continual Improvement

John Heine is seeking continual improvement in customer satisfaction, the production process and across its general operation. An active customer complaints register and spoilt work analysis is conducted and addressed at production and sales meetings. In addition supplier reviews and internal and external audits are done frequently.

Staff training is conducted externally and internally to achieve our aim of not only to meet but exceed industry standards.

 

General Business

John Heine and Son is a long established family owned engineering company.

Established in 1886 it is centred on a modern machine shop and ferrous foundry and makes a wide variety of products for the general engineering, mining, quarrying and power generation industries. Around 25% of the company’s output is exported to SE Asia, the America’s, Africa and Europe.

Australian owned and operated the company employs approximately 60 staff. The family now in the 5th generation is heavily involved in the management of the company.

The company has a strong balance sheet with minimal debt, which provides a strong foundation for future growth.
